Woman with cardiac arrest sent home with paracetamol by state doctor, dies same night

A woman of Ventersburg in the Free State, Ronelle Oostendorp (66), who was diagnosed by her house doctor as having suffered a heart attack was sent away by a state doctor at the Virginia district state hospital with just a handful of paracetamol tablets. She died during the night at home.

Dr Piet van Wyk, who has more than 40 years experience as a doctor, told the media that Ronelle came to see him at his practise at Ventersburg early on Monday morning 16 November 2020, and complained of severe chest pain. He did 3 EKG heart tests and established that she had a heart attack.

He gave Ronelle a recommendation letter to to be admitted to the Virginia state hospital because Ronelle did not have a medical aid.
After waiting for hours the ambulance took Ronelle to the hospital. Heidi Le Roux told the media that she accompanied her mother at the hospital and that the state doctor said that her mother’s house doctor, Dr Van Wyk, knows nothing. He also threw the 3 EKG heart test computer printouts which Dr Van Wyk gave in the bin.

The state doctor then sent them home with just some tablets. Ronelle then died the same night at home.

Dr Van Wyk said that he already had 3 patients who suffered heart attacks who died as a result of negligence at the Virginia district hospital. He said the personnel at the hospital feels nothing for people.

We unfortunately signed our right to dignity and proper healthcare away when we consented to be ruled by the black majority in 1994. Now only people with money will be helped at private hospitals and even there standards are dropping as many people will know.
