Health department ignores human blood in street

Human Blood from the government hospital in Kuruman flowing into the street poses health hazards to its residents, and should according to the civil rights watchdog, AfriForum, be resolved immediately.

Stefan Pieterse, AfriForum’s provincial coordinator for the Northern Cape, said the blood contaminate the ground water used by farmers for irrigation.

“This means that people can take in contaminated agricultural products. What leaves us speechless is that the health department is aware of the problem and simply ignore it.”

“Public hospitals should deliver quality service to South Africa. This year was marked by several violent protests by disgruntled communities but when we experience situations such as these it is quite understandable,” Pieterse said.

Yesterday AfriForum took clean water for the Barkley East community, after residents riots over poor service delivery.

If the health department does not resolve the problem urgently AfriForum will hastily intervene with solutions, and the costs will be recovered from the department.
