Front National wrote a letter to Lindiwe Mdlalose, Acting CEO of Land Bank on 9 July 2014 demanding an explanation as to why Land Bank funded the purchase of a farm belonging to MP Thandi Modise on which the SPCA discovered appalling evidence of animal abuse. Several pigs were left to die of hunger and lack of water.
A response was received, dated 27 August 2014, but only delivered at the end of November 2014 in which me Mdlalose explains that Land Bank is not at liberty to disclose any information about the details of an application for funding. The letter, however, does not deny that Modise received financing for the purchase of the farm. In light of the fact that Modise is a public figure and is earning a salary as MP and before that, as MEC, she is legally not entitled to any Land Bank funding as she is not a bona fide farmer, as is stipulated in the bylaws of the Land Bank. This means that a possible charge of corruption against both Modise and the Land Bank should be investigated.
Front National regards it as appalling that young, upcoming bona fide farmers should struggle to receive financing and support from the government in which Modise is an office bearer, while ANC senior officials should abuse their position for double dipping and then make themselves guilty of the most objectionable actions which was evident on the farm of Modise.
Jannie Kühn, FN Spokesperson on Agriculture, this morning demanded an explanation from Land Bank, saying that all possible steps will be taken to determine whether corruption did in fact take place and to assure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
