Since May 4th, Scientology Volunteer Ministers are protecting the citizens of South Africa through spreading basic knowledge on how to stay safe. They printed and started to distribute hygiene education booklets to tell people how to keep well even in time of coronavirus.

Aware they “can do something about it” – the motto of Volunteer Ministers – Scientologists are creating non-stop to find ways they can assist. They produced hundreds of thousands of booklets giving basics on “How to Stay Well”, “How to Use Masks and Gloves” and “Isolation”, all of which they financed themselves to the tune of hundreds of thousands of rands. They even boast to have translated the booklets in Zulu and Sotho so they can reach even more people – and they plan for more translations to accommodate the whole country.
To take it a step further, Scientologists have created a free online platform to reach the broader population with hygiene education and precaution tips. With the booklets in three languages and their “How to Stay Well Prevention Resource Center” website, Scientologists hope to reach the millions and help in making people feeling safer.
Although the broad distribution only started on the 4th of May, requests were already received from taxis and police stations for thousands of copies of the booklets for their own distribution. One taxi driver announced at the taxi rank, “For those who don’t know how to read English, Scientology has thought about you too and brought Zulu booklets.” Many voiced how happy they were to get it in their own language. For police officers, they were very excited about the translated materials and took as many Zulu booklets as they could get, along with English, for distribution to their local community.
Sandile Hlayisi, Public Affairs Director for the Volunteer Ministers said, “As always, we are honored to assist. As President Ramaphosa stated, we need to stay united and it is some of our contributions towards this.”
Hlayisi reminds that L. Ron Hubbard, the author of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers technology written in the 1970’s especially for South Africa, is the man that inspire Scientologists to work harder. In addition to distributing booklets, they have sanitized their first 7,000 taxis, 150 buses, 1,181 police vehicles, 80 fire engines, 143 ambulances and 3263 buildings, amounting to more than 88,500 hours of volunteer work since the lockdown.
