Butterworth Regional Magistrate’s Court sentenced 21 year old man Luyolo Mqeke to undergo 15 years imprisonment. He was convicted and sentenced on Monday 8 April 2019.
He was convicted after he raped a 15 year old girl. It is alleged that the victim was going to her boyfriend on 7 January 2012, at about 20:00, at Mission Locality, Gwadana Village, Dutywa. She met with three men who dragged her to a nearby house where they gang raped her.
Two other accused, 19 year old Mziyanda Siphuka and 19 year old Nkosiyakhe Tebe, were sentenced to each undergo 15 years imprisonment in 2018.
Acting Butterworth Cluster Commander, Colonel Ncedo Ngwendze has welcomed the sentences of all the accused persons. He warned women and children not to walk alone especially at night as they become victims of rape.
