Boy (12) claims alleged assault and stabbing by his mother, Verulam

A 12 year old boy was located at Umdloti Beach in Umdloti, KZN after he fled from his grandparents home in Mountview, Verulam after he was allegedly assaulted and stabbed with a pen by his mother on Friday 25 January 2019.

The RUSA Operations Centre received a called from an individual requesting assistance after he located the boy at the beach. A RUSA Officer was dispatched to the location and upon arrival questioned the boy who explained that he lived with his grandparents on Greenfield Way in Mountview, Verulam.

The Mountview Secondary pupil claimed that this morning his mother arrived at his grandparents residence when he asked her to prepare lunch which he could take to school. After she refused to make his lunch she allegedly began assaulting him and stabbed him with a pen on his left arm.

The grade 8 learner then walked to Umdloti Beach from Verulam dressed in his school uniform when he was located by a member of public. During the interview the boy pointed out a stab wound to an Officer.

The Reaction Officer transported the boy back to his grandparents home and handed him over to his family who claimed that his version of events were fabricated and he regularly absconded from school.

They also believe that the wound was self inflicted.
