A 37 year old Vusikhaya Edward from KwaDabeka has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping an 11 year old girl.
In March 2016, the victim was at her home, cleaning when Mavusana came knocking saying he wanted to load electricity on the metre box. The victim opened the door for Mavusana because he was not a stranger to her. When Mavusana finished loading the electricity, he raped the victim. He threatened her not to tell anyone. It was only after the mother of the victim noticed her strange behaviour, when she questioned her, she told her she had been repeatedly raped by Mavusana.
A case was opened at KwaDabeka police station and it was investigated by Pinetown Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit. The accused appeared in court several times until he was convicted.
The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki has welcomed the sentence and applauds the sterling detective work conducted by the officers who ensured that the perpetrator of such wicked crime are brought to justice.
