During this time of the year, we as members of the SAPS are expecting an increase in the movement of people into and out of the towns of the Humansdorp Cluster.
The South African Police Service is committed to continue developing and enhancing strategies and implementing specific plans to fight crime in collaboration with other stakeholders and law abiding citizens.
The safety of our citizens will remain a priority for members of the South African Police Service, with special focus on intensified police visibility in shopping centers, on the beaches and on our national roads. Increased intelligence driven and high visibility operations in hot spot areas will be conducted to ensure that we maintain public order, protect and secure the inhabitants of South Africa and their property, by upholding and enforcing the law.
On Friday, 1 December 2017, members from the Humansdorp Cluster were on foot patrol along the beachfront of Jeffreys Bay and members interacted with the community and made their presence felt in the area. Members also visited the local shopping centers, interacted with the community and handed out pamphlets with safety hints (Break the silence on domestic violence and general safety hints).
Multi-disciplinary roadblocks were conducted on the N2 and the following successes were obtained between yesterday, Thursday, 30 November 2017 and today, Friday, 1 December 2017. 400 Vehicles were stopped and searched and traffic related fines to the value of R64 550-00 were issued.
Two suspects (25 and 33-years-old) were arrested for being in possession of 14 bundles of khat and is expected to appear in the Hankey Magistrate’s court soon.
SAPS and other law enforcement agencies will continue with their high visibility to ensure safer communities. The Humansdorp Cluster Commander, Brigadier John Lebok, urged the community to remain vigilant during this festive season and to exercise caution when celebrating and to do so responsibly. Extra precautionary measures must be taken when visiting the places where alcohol is sold and consumed. We would also once again want to urge motorists to exercise extreme caution while driving and to be on the look out for pedestrians. “I encourage community members to continue working with us in ridding our communities of crime”.
