In a bid to ensure that those who continue to abuse women and children are brought to book the police arrested four suspects who had allegedly raped victims in Crossroads, Cossovo and Nyanga Hostels.
Two suspects, aged 20, were arrested after they and a third accomplice allegedly raped the victim on Saturday night 18 November 2017, in Nyanga Hostels. The latter were all drinking and the victim went to sleep but the suspects took advantage of her state and repeatedly raped her. The third suspect is still on the run but will also face the music.
Another 32 year old man was also arrested on Sunday night 19 November 2017, after he allegedly raped his girlfriend on Friday night in Cossovo, Samora Machel.
The victim and the ex boyfriend were at a shebeen and when the victim left for home from a shebeen the ex boyfriend grabbed and pulled her into his house and thereafter raped her.
In a separate incident a 52 year-old man was also arrested on Monday 20 November 2017, after he allegedly sexually assaulted a three year old girl over the weekend in Crossroads.
The mother had left the child with another woman but when she came back the next day she found the child naked in bed with the suspect.
The three suspects, aged between 20 and 32, appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 21 November 2017, on charges of rape and the 52 year old is expected to appear in the same court during this week, on sexual assault charges.
The members were thanked for their efforts in ensuring that those who take advantage of and disrespect the rights of women and children face the court. We would like to urge parents to always leave their children with people that they trust.
