Early Saturday, the United States executed a large-scale military strike on Venezuela. Multiple explosions and low-flying aircraft were reported in Caracas.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Truth Social that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured and flown out of the country. He said the operation was conducted in conjunction with U.S. law enforcement and was successful.
The Venezuelan government accused the U.S. of an imperialist attack on civilian and military installations. The apparent attack lasted less than 30 minutes.
Following the strike, it was not immediately clear who was running Venezuela. The whereabouts of President Maduro were not immediately known.
The strike follows escalated pressure from the Trump administration on Maduro, who has previously called U.S. military operations a veiled effort to oust him.
