Presidential nominee Donald Trump was on his way to Scotland for events at his golf resorts Friday and Saturday following the “Brexit” referendum on Britsh membership in the European Union.
The presumptive Republican nominee, who has said he supports Britain leaving the European Union, flew to Scotland, where he planned to visit his recently refurbished resorts Friday in Turnberry and Saturday in Aberdeen.
At Turnberry he will open the Trump Turnberry Resort, which he bought in 2014, following a reported 292-million-dollar upgrade.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter published Wednesday, Trump reiterated that he supported Britain leaving the EU.
“I think they should leave,” he responded after appearing to be unfamiliar with Brexit, the commonly used term for a Britain exit
from the EU.
There have been some protests abroad over insensitive comments Trump has made in the US presidential campaign trail. Two Muslim leaders
invited him to visit a mosque during his Scotland trip in hopes that the populist billionaire can “learn more about the Muslims that he
offends almost every time he opens his mouth,” they said.
Neighbours of Trump’s Aberdeen golf course have raised Mexican flags within sight of the property “in solidarity” with Mexicans and other
people the candidate has insulted, The Guardian reported this week.
