Outgoing UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage on
Wednesday said he plans to assist further national campaigns trying
to help countries exit the European Union once he leaves his post,
claiming the current EU “project is now dying.”

“I think what Britain has done is to open the door for the end of
[European] political union,” Farage told reporters in Strasbourg,
where he is a UKIP member of the European Parliament.

“I do feel that our result offers a beacon of hope to movements right
across the European Union,” he said, citing opinion polls suggesting
rising support for leaving the EU in Denmark, The Netherlands, the
Czech Republic and Italy.

“Nothing is ever going to be the same again. I do belive that this
project, the European Union project, is now dying,” he said, adding
that he expects a new eurozone crisis in the next few months.

“I will be working with parties and political movements across the
rest of Europe and who are looking to get their independence back,
too,” Farage said.

He announced his resignation as UKIP leader on Monday, saying he had
achieved his goal by securing a vote for a British EU exit, or
Brexit. But he plans to continue to sit in the European Parliament.

Farage, 52, has led the right-wing party for a total of 10 years. He
said he wants to focus on his personal life after the vote for
Brexit, which he said, “means that my political ambition has been
achieved.”

His surprise resignation came at a turbulent time in British
politics. Prime Minister David Cameron offered his resignation the
day after the June 23 referendum, following his failed campaign for
Britain to remain in the EU.
