South Africa on Friday added its voice to the growing condemnation of the Bastille Day terror attack in the French city of Nice which claimed the lives of more than 80 people, including a number of children.
“On behalf of the Government and the people of South Africa, H.E President Jacob Zuma has extended his heartfelt condolences to H.E President Francois Hollande, the Government and the people of France, in particular the families of the deceased and injured,” government said in a statement.
Zuma said: “South Africa shares in the grief of the French people and wishes the injured survivors a speedy recovery. Terrorism in any form and from whichever quarter cannot be condoned.
“South Africa stands firmly with the international community in condemning all forms of terrorism and stands in solidarity with the Government of the Republic of France as they mourn the death of their citizens.”
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation’s Consular Services division was in contact with the South African Embassy in Paris following the attacks to determine if any South African citizens had been affected.
South Africans in France, or family members in South Africa requiring assistance, were requested to contact the South African Embassy in Paris or the Department of International Relations and Cooperation at +27 12 351 1000.
