One dead in California polling station shooting
U.S. elections 2016.

One person was killed and two others were
critically injured Tuesday in a shooting near a polling station in
southern California, local police said.

Police confirmed the shooting on Twitter, saying the incident began
at 2:02 pm (2202 GMT) with reports of shots fired near a park in the
town of Azusa, approximately 50 kilometres east of Los Angeles.

One man died and two women, aged 59 and 67, were wounded, local
television network KLTA reported.

The shooter, who had barricaded himself in a house, was later found
dead by police.

The polling location and two nearby schools were evacuated, Azusa
Police Chief Steve Hunt said.

Hunt had previously described the situation as “not stable” and said
a shooter armed with an assault rifle had barricaded himself inside a
house.

“It’s very early to tell what the motive is, but it appears to be
concentrated on the residential side, not at the polling station,”
Hunt said.

A man who was inside the polling location when the shooting occurred
said he had heard shots ring out before officials locked the doors.
He told CNN a “massive shooting is happening.”

A female voter told KLTA that officials were not allowing anyone to
leave, however people were still allowed to vote while they waited.
