ATLANTA, Georgia — Police are investigating a shooting that left a man wounded outside a busy convenience store in Southwest Atlanta on Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred outside the MLK Food Mart in the Gordon Plaza Shopping Center, located at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Hamilton E. Holmes Drive, directly across from the MARTA station. The area sees significant foot traffic and activity due to its busy location.

According to on-scene reporting, the victim was found lying on the sidewalk under the awning in front of the store after being shot in the leg. First responders applied a tourniquet at the scene, and the man was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital’s trauma center for treatment. Authorities indicated that the victim is expected to survive.

Witnesses were present at the time of the shooting, but investigators have not released a description of the suspect. No one is in custody, and the search for the shooter continues.

Atlanta Police Department officers secured the area, with crime scene technicians documenting evidence, including taking photographs. The scene was expected to be cleared within about 30 minutes as processing wrapped up, allowing detectives to build the case.

The investigation benefits from numerous cameras in the high-traffic area, which are likely to assist in identifying the suspect and reconstructing events. Technology is expected to play a key role as APD works to locate the shooter.

This remains an active investigation, with no further details on a possible motive or additional suspects released at this time.
