Islam cannot be viewed with the same logic of Christianity or Judaism or virtually any other religion. The books of the Koran are placed in order of size rather than chronologically like the Bible.
However, the Prophet deemed that any passages that were revealed to him at a later date cancel out any others from prior that are in conflict.
The early part of Islam was characterized by the Prophet trying to build the religion, so passages from that time were more peaceful and tolerant.
Later, however, once the Prophet had established his army and religion, he “revealed” the more violent truth that makes it the duty of Muslims to spread the faith by force.
One of his favorite ways to kill was beheading, which is why Muslims tend to practice it.
Also unlike other religions, Islam is not simply a faith, but it is a whole political and legal system that does not run separate from government.
