Boy 2, dies after forced to eat chilli and tortured in Singapore

A couple in Singapore was jailed Tuesday for
abusing the woman’s two-year-old son, including beating him and
force-feeding him chilli, leading to his death.

Zaidah, who was identified by only one name, was sentenced to 11
years, and her boyfriend Zaini Jamari was sentenced to 10 years and
12 strokes of the cane, news reports said. Under Singapore law, women
cannot be sentenced to corporal punishment.

They both pleaded guilty to child abuse and causing grevious harm
leading to death.

The boy, Mohamed Daniel Mohamad Nasser, was beaten, kicked, punched
and force-fed dried chilli for weeks before he was found unresponsive
on 23 November and the couple’s housemates called an ambulance,
Channel NewsAsia reported.

The couple told the paramedics and police that his bruises were
caused by the boy pinching himself and a fall in the toilet.

His injuries included a rib fracture and bleeding on the brain,
according to the prosecutor’s statement.

His father Mohamad Nasser Abdul Gani said the sentencing was “not
enough.”

“My son remains dead,” he told The Straits Times.

The boy’s uncle Abdu Manaf Al Ansari also said he was disappointed,
and would seek a review for harsher sentencing with the
attorney-general.
