WATCH Black Smoke Rising Into Sky After 'US Rocket' Hits Residential Building in Kabul

Kabul was rocked by another explosion on Sunday – this time it was reportedly from a US military airstrike.

The Taliban’s* spokesman said that the blast was caused by a US airstrike targeting a suicide bomber who planned to attack Kabul’s airport.

Videos from the scene shared online show black smoke rising above residential buildings, as loud bangs are heard nearby.

According to initial reports, the the blast took place near Kabul Airport. A police source told Sputnik that the explosion was caused by a rocket attack that hit the capital’s 15th district, potentially destroying a residential building.

According to local TV, one or two people died and three more were injured as a result of the reported strike. 

The blast took place just days after an attack near Kabul Airport that claimed the lives of over 170 people, including 13 US service members. American forces are currently managing a chaotic evacuation effort in Afghanistan after the Taliban took power on 15 August. The attack was claimed by Daesh-Khorasan, prompting the US to launch a drone strike in response that reportedly killed two of its leaders and injured a third one.


*Taliban and Daesh-K are terrorist groups outlawed in Russia and many other countries.
