
CHICAGO, Illinois — A 13-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being shot twice, once in the head, in a residential neighborhood on the city’s South Side.
Police were called to the 8200 block of South Coles Avenue around 2:50 p.m. near EPIC Academy, a public charter high school. Officers discovered the boy suffering from a gunshot wound and rushed him to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Area Two detectives spent several hours at the scene gathering evidence and conducting interviews. According to a law enforcement source, authorities have taken one person into custody and are actively questioning them in connection with the shooting.
The investigation is ongoing as the young victim continues to receive treatment at the hospital.
