Tlotlo Modise (29) and Olehile Mongale (29) appeared in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, on charges including corruption, forgery, uttering, and money laundering. The accused were arrested on 5 May 2026 by members of the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation.
According to court reports, in June 2024, a complainant submitted a curriculum vitae for a general worker position at the Matlosana Local Municipality. The complainant later received a phone call from a person identifying himself as Tlotlo Modise, who allegedly requested R13,000 to secure employment at the municipality.
The complainant paid R13,000 in two installments: R8,000 deposited into a bank account belonging to Olehile Mongale, followed by R5,000 paid into the bank account of Tlotlo Modise. After the payments, the complainant was invited to an interview, reportedly conducted by a single individual. Subsequently, Modise allegedly called the complainant to sign an appointment letter.
After several weeks without receiving a start date, the complainant became suspicious. A community member reportedly informed the complainant that Modise was an intern at the municipality. The complainant then reported the matter to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation.
An investigation revealed that Modise and his accomplice had received payment from the complainant. Further probes showed that Modise had drafted an appointment letter bearing a forged signature of the municipal manager.
Modise faces charges of corruption, forgery, and uttering. Mongale is charged with money laundering. Both were granted bail of R500 each. The case was postponed to 4 June 2026.
