Taxi sanitising campaign gets massive boost with new fogging machines

Nonprofit organization, Scientology Volunteer Ministers, has amplified the reach of its national taxi sanitizing campaign with the introduction of 225 powerful new fogging machines which allows the organization to sanitize up to 12 780 taxis daily.

This is in response to the enormous increase in commuter demand from people returning to work since South Africa went into lockdown level 3 on 1 June.

The new fogging machines are capable of deep sanitation, decontamination and disinfection by full atmospheric permeation at double the speed of the machines the organization was previously using to dispense Decon-7, a decontamination agent first developed in the United States to combat germ warfare.

The primary active ingredient in Decon-7 is Hydrogen Peroxide, a substance with zero toxicity and no negative ecological impact, but exceptional levels of sanitization and recommended by the World Health Organization to combat Covid-19.

“Our new machines will allow us to ramp up our efforts to assist taxi commuters enormously,” said Sandile Hlayisi, Public Affairs Director for the Scientology Volunteer Ministers.

“Already on the second day of using these machines, we went from sanitizing 4500 taxis a day on average to 12,780 taxis in the same amount of time.  This alone represents many more thousands assisted daily.”

Deputy Director General for Transport in the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport Mr. Freeman Masuku said, “It’s a beautiful moment, the work that is being done, the purpose, the passion and dedication to see these volunteers at our taxi ranks by 4am ready for work. The appreciation and the enormity of the task, 135,000 taxis, no easy feat! We are very impressed.”

Taxi driver, Mr. Honest Sono said, “I am very happy that you come every day. You must please continue to be patient with us drivers. We are not men of schooling, but we appreciate the work the Volunteer Ministers are doing, and we are also learning a lot about this virus from you.”

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers have teams in Gauteng, KZN, Eastern Cape and Western Cape and have sanitized more than 10.5 million square meters since March their ranks have been swelled recently by volunteers from several faith-based organizations and associated NPOs assisting in the sanitization campaign.

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers is based on the volunteer systems developed for South Africa by L. Ron Hubbard during his residence in the country in 1960.
