Rostec’s Shvabe Holding and the Laser Association of China intend to develop and introduce photonics technology at the international level. The arrangements between the parties are enshrined in the memorandum on the creation of the consortium named Polyus International Photonics Center, which was signed in August by Shvabe Holding and the PRC delegation representatives.

The document was signed by Evgenii Kuznetsov, Director General of Polyus Research Institute, part of Shvabe Holding, and Zhu Xiao, President of the Laser Association of Hubei Province. The memorandum envisages three areas of joint activity; those are quantum cascade lasers, disk lasers, gyroscopes, and gyrocompasses. During a bilateral meeting, performers and coordinating bodies were appointed. These are Academy of Photonics Non-Profit Organization on the Russian side, and the National Engineering Center for Laser Processing of Materials on the Chinese side.

‘Cooperation with Chinese photonics professionals is undoubtedly an important step in the development of the enterprise and the photonics field in general. In the course of preliminary work, we have determined the activity areas and prospects of cooperation. I am sure that together we will be able to achieve high results,’ the CEO of Polyus Research Institute Evgenii Kuznetsov noted.

The event also encompassed a conference where employees of the Polyus Research Institute told the Chinese delegation about the principal activities of the company. An emphasis was put on the matter of advanced training and retraining of employees of Chinese companies in Russia.

The next meeting is scheduled for November this year in the city of Wuhan, Hubei Province. By then, the parties will prepare their proposals concerning the creation of joint research laboratories, the areas of research and development, as well as proposals concerning the needs in the field of additional education and advanced training to be performed as part of their cooperation.
