A Full Guide to Samsung Galaxy S20

Launched on 11th February 2020, Samsung Galaxy S20 has an impressive amount of new features most of which are not yet available in other smartphones in the market. It is the successor of Galaxy S10 with several key upgrades such as 5g connectivity, 30-100x zoom, 8k video recording, a 120 Hz refresh rate which is almost double of S10. In this article, we will look at all the specifications and features of Galaxy S20 in detail.

Built, Design and Screen

Similar to S10, Galaxy S20 features an Infinity-O display with a punch-hole selfie camera. These smartphones are available in five colour variants: Cosmic Grey, Cosmic Black, Cloud White, Cloud Pink, and Cloud Blue. With a 6.20 inch (1440 x 3200) touchscreen display, the S20 has an impressive superfluid refresh rate of 120 Hz making the user experience very smooth and efficient, especially for gamers. The S20 Ultra, however, sports a 6.9-inch display. It has a 1440p AMOLED screen which features the dynamic tone mapping technology. The curved sides of the screen give it a more elegant look and have a wider 20:9 aspect ratio.

Battery

To support its upgraded refresh rate, S20 has a bigger battery. It has moved from 3400 mAh to a 4000 mAh battery which supports wireless charging as well as fast charging. The battery easily lasts a day considering the 120 Hz which the phone runs on all the time. You can always switch down to 60 Hz for longer battery life.

Storage and Chipsets

Samsung S20 has increased the bar for other flagships. With a Snapdragon 865 in their US, Canadian, Korean, Japanese and Chinese models, Exynos 990 in other international models, Samsung has set crazy big numbers across the board. To start with the storage, the S20 and S20+ are available in 8 GB or 12 GB respectively. It gives 128 gigs of UFS (Univarsal Flash Storage) 3.0 storage. The S20+ and S20 Ultra also give the option for 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB storage with an expansion of 1 TB via the microSD card slot.

Camera

One of the biggest upgrades that come with this phone is its camera. It has three cameras. The main camera is of 12 megapixels with OIS or Optical Image Stabilization. The second camera is the 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera and the third one is a 64 megapixel 3x telephoto camera. Although the main and the ultra-wide camera sensors are unchanged, the telephoto sensors have seen significant improvements. The “Depth Vision Camera” is available on the S20+ with a time-of-flight sensor. The quadruple lens system has a 4x optical zoom as well as 100x digital zoom. It has a 108 mp wide image sensor and a 48 mp periscope telephoto sensor.

Connectivity

Samsung is offering 5g cellular connectivity with a sub-6GHz 5g in S20 and mmWave 5G in S20+ and S20 Ultra. All three models support WiFi Ax which ensures faster data transfer.

These were all the main specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S20. In September 2020, Samsung also announced the launch of Galaxy S20 Fan Edition with the same chipsets but in a much lesser price range.
