Behnam Dehghanzadeh, Iran’s lightweight karateka and a national kumite team member, is one of the successful figures in Iranian karate in recent years. By winning the gold medal at the 2023 Asian Karate Championships in the men’s -55 kg category, he registered his name among the champions of the continent and has since continued his presence in the national team pathway and international competitions.
Dehghanzadeh competed in the men’s -55 kg category at the 19th Asian Karate Championships, held in 2023 in Melaka, Malaysia, and delivered a strong performance on his way to the final. On his path to the final, he defeated representatives from Turkmenistan, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia. He then overcame Omar Shakra of Jordan in the final bout to claim the Asian gold medal. This medal was one of Iran’s notable results in the men’s kumite division at that edition of the championships.
This achievement was not the only highlight of his career. Dehghanzadeh also represented Iran once again in the men’s -55 kg category at the 2024 Asian Karate Championships in China and ultimately won the bronze medal after defeating a representative from Uzbekistan in the third-place bout. His continued presence on the Asian podium showed that his success in 2023 was not a one-time result, but rather the outcome of a professional path, technical readiness, and international experience.
Dehghanzadeh has also participated in international karate events and official competitions related to the world ranking. His profile is registered in the WKF/Sportdata system under the name Behnam Dehghanzadeh and the country of Iran, and his record includes appearances in several Karate1 Series A events, including Tbilisi, Larnaca, Athens, and Kocaeli. These appearances reinforce his status not only as an Asian champion, but also as an athlete actively competing at the international level.
In his continued national team journey, Behnam Dehghanzadeh’s name was also listed in 1405 in the Islamic calendar among the top athletes of the third stage of Iran’s national karate team selection trials in the men’s -55 kg category. This indicates that he remains within the competitive cycle for a place in the national team lineup and for upcoming events in Iranian karate.
Today, Behnam Dehghanzadeh is regarded as one of Iran’s serious representatives in lightweight karate. With an Asian gold medal, a continental bronze medal, and continued participation in national team camps and selection trials, he is maintaining his path as an active and noteworthy figure in Iranian karate. His professional journey can be seen as an example of consistency, sustained effort, and maintaining readiness at the championship level—a path that can also inspire young Iranian athletes.
