The crisis surrounding the payment of social grants turned to the Constitutional Court in an attempt to find solutions, but the country’s head of state, Jacob Zuma believes that despite the crisis, his minister did nothing wrong.
Zuma answered questions in parliament and said he could not sentence Bathabile Dlamini, Social Development Minister before she had made a mistake. In contrast, the constitutional court grilled her on more than one occasion for her role in the debacle. Political parties and extra-parliamentary groups want Dlamini’s head, as 17 million people still do not know whether they will get their social grants on 1 April.
