ANC leader Jacob Zuma apparently survived the storms within the ANC and perhaps even more than expected, while the position of his deputy, Cyril Ramaphosa probably weakened, along with those of Mantashe, the secretary general of the ANC.

It turns out a document was apparently prematurely and mistakenly sent from the ANC’s email system to various media houses by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). An agenda for the NWC’s discussions were apparently part of it, but the ANC has now scrambled to say the document is not theirs. Either way, it was sent from their official e-mail system, and they cannot or will not explain.

In the document, it appears Zuma came out as the strongest, and the three members of the so-called big six, are reprimanded. There is also serious talk with other ANC members who have expressed themselves in public against Zuma. Likewise, the alliance partners were criticized severely for distancing itself from the cabinet.

The content of the document is probably true despite the ANC’s official denials, it appears from a performance yesterday by the minister of water and Sanitation, Nomvula Mokonyane, at the ANC Youth League. She attended an ANCYL meeting and interrupted the youth meeting, to talk about the experience or at least the feeling of the NEC meeting. On that basis, she positively declared that Jacob Zuma is going nowhere, and will continue until 2019 as president of the country. She is confident that the proposed vote of no confidence against Zuma will not succeed in parliament. No ANC members will vote against Zuma.

Zuma also indicated at a public event that forceful action will be taken against rebels in the ANC.
