Zuma dishes out cash to voters

Cape Town – President Jacob Zuma is reportedly winning the hearts of voters by dishing out cash while on his electoral campaign, reports the Sunday Times.

According to the newspaper, this is not the first time a president has done so but it is the first time a president has used his own cash.

Former president Thabo Mbeki also did so while on his 2004 electoral campaign but rather than give voters his own money he would turn to members of his entourage and tell them to give people money.

Zuma however, is reportedly walking around with plenty of cash in his pockets, reports the newspaper. According to the report, a sickly resident of Mabopane near Pretoria was the first recipient of Zuma’s generosity. When the man asked for money to buy groceries, Zuma promptly counted out a wad of crisp R100 notes and handed over R1 000 in total.
