World Vision SA: We don’t discriminate

Cape Town – World Vision South Africa confirmed on Friday that it will not follow its US body’s policy of not hiring Christians in same-sex marriages.

AP reported on Thursday that the global aid group told its supporters in a letter that the board had made a mistake with regards to a newly adopted policy and was returning to its rule requiring celibacy outside of marriage “and faithfulness within the Bible covenant of marriage between a man and a woman”.

But in a statement on Friday, World Vision South Africa’s national director Paula Barnard said its hiring policies were in line with the South African Constitution which does not allow for discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, religion, gender or race.
