Woman killed and son injured in attack

Anita Cassell, in her 60’s was killed and her son Danie Cassell, in his 40’s was injured after they were attacked early morning on Monday, September 7, 2015, in their home in Apiesdoring Avenue, Wonderboom, Pretoria presumably by someone known to them.

Mirna von Benecke spokesperson of Sinoville police, told Maroela Media it is suspected that the attacker is a previous employee of a restaurant in the Kolonnade shopping center managed by Danie.

A 34-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.

According to Von Benecke the suspect gained access to the house between 05:30 and 6:00.

“Anita discovered the suspect in the house, after which he stabbed her with a knife. She died at the scene. Danie was attacked and injured. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.”

The suspect allegedly stole a cell phone and keys to the restaurant before he fled.

Von Benecke said it is suspected that the same suspect broke in at the restaurant after the attack, where he stole an undisclosed amount of cash from the safe.

Sinoville police is investigating a case of murder, robbery and robbery cases.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
