Winnie Madikizela Mandela passed away at the age of 81 earlier this afternoon 2 April 2018.

Mandela, former spouse of Nelson Mandela, became known as the “Mother of the Nation” for keeping the “struggle” alive during Mandela’s incarceration.

The often controversial Madikizela-Mandela was a driving force behind the violent face of ANC politics with her statements such as: “With our boxes of matches….we will ‘liberate’ this country.”

Madikizela Mandela was also notorious for her alleged involvement in the murder of Stompie Sepei. She was the first registered black social worker in South Africa and served as deputy minister of arts and culture in her former husband’s first post 1994 cabinet. She was an aunt of the Democratic Alliance’s Western Cape Leader, Bonginkosi Madikizela.

With Madikizela Mandela’s death, the ANC and Ramaphosa’s dream of bringing Malema and his EFF back into the ANC suffers a setback. It was bargained that Winnie might be the mediator to convince Malema of this step.

To the white minority in South Africa Madikizela Mandela’s death is no reason for sorrow. She was one of the worst persecutors and haters of our nation ever.

No funeral arrangements have been announced yet.
