Windows welded shut, robbers still attempt robbery

An elderly couple walked into a robbery at their Hartswater home but was unharmed. They caught the burglars before anything got stolen.

Liam (79) and Hettie Immelman (68), arrived at their home outside the town on Saturday at 20:00.

“We were with my son for dinner. We went home early to finish all our daily tasks because of Eskom load shedding. My son stays about 2 kilometers from our house. He always call to see if we got home safely “said Hettie.

The Immelman’s are living in a panhandle yard and have to drive in a long corridor to get to their home. There was a massive branch in the roadway that Liam had to drag out of the way. The front door was closed. Her son called and she said all is well.

“The back door was open and there was a piece of metal next to the door. In the house the linen cupboard was open. I thought my husband went in the house before me.”

“When I saw the spear gun on the floor, I knew something was wrong. I immediately told my husband we need to get away. We returned to the car and drove out. When we were down the street, I called my son. He called the police, who immediately responded.”

Police found the front door open. The Immelman’s suspects that the thieves fled when they returned home. Nothing was stolen. The safe was found at the front door. There were no weapons in the safe.

This is the third time in two years that someone broke in to their house. During the previous robberies electronic equipment, clothing and meat were stolen. She welded her windows shut.

“That’s why they came through the doors this time.”

Maj. Dimakatso Mooi, Police spokesman confirmed the incident and said they were investigating. No one has been arrested.
