The DA’s former leader and Premier of the Western Cape, Helen Zille, has been suspended from the party for social media remarks she made on colonialism in March and it did not go well with her black party members and the new boss of the party.

Her suspension will last until her disciplinary hearing has been completed.

Apparently, the vast majority of DA’s federal council rallied behind leader Mmusi Maimane and decided to suspend their former leader from all party activities. The party’s management said that she had to realize that democracy in South Africa is fragile and not to refer to statements about the past.

Zille stated that she is the victim of an orchestrated campaign to remove her as Premier of the Western Cape. The ANC has long claimed that she must be replaced, and if the DA were to find her guilty and remove her, they would play in the hands of the ANC.
