An intelligence driven operation by Stellenbosch and Worcester police led to the arrest of a suspect in connection with a murder and a business robbery that was perpetrated in Thembalethu, Worcester on the morning of 2 June 2019. Police acted on information and traced the suspect who resides at Watergang Kayamandi Stellenbosch.

The suspect who was not at home, arrived shortly afterwards and was arrested upon his return. A search was conducted and a 9mm firearm with ammunition were found, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash and a cellphone that was taken from one of the security guards during the business robbery.

The suspect aged 49 is expected to appear in the Stellenbosch Magistrates’ Court on 4 June 2019, where he is facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of stolen property, more charges may be added.

Police detectives are hot on the heels of the remaining suspects.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula has commended the members who worked tirelessly and ensured that the suspect was brought to book.
