Swift response by police from Gugulethu resulted in the arrest of a 20 year old man, following a robbery that occurred on NY5, inside a vehicle on 15 June 2018, at 07:00.
According to information, the complainant was on her way to work when a group of men carrying axes and spades stopped the vehicle and opened the driver’s door by force, demanding money and cellphones. The suspects went to the passenger’s door where the complainant was sitting and they demanded her bag and fled on foot.
Guguletu police followed up on information they received and arrested the suspect. Copper pipes and spectacles that belong to the complainant were found in his possession.
The suspect was arrested and was charged with robbery and possession of presumed stolen property. He is expected to appear in the Philippi Magistrates’ Court.
