Intensive investigation into the disappearance of a baby from her residence at Concordia, Mvuleni, Knysna led to the arrest of a 20-year-old suspect at Kwanokuthula, Plettenberg Bay on Sunday, 4 April 2021.

It is alleged that the woman, a friend of the mother of the child, visited her on Saturday afternoon, 3 April 2021. She took the three-month-old baby under false pretenses and disappeared.

A search party was established. The investigation took the police to Kwanokuthula, Plettenberg Bay where the woman and the baby were found at a Church. Investigators attached to the George Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual offences unit and Knysna Detectives arrested the woman on a charge of kidnapping.

The suspect remains in custody and will appear in the Knysna Magistrates’ court once charged.

Eden Cluster Commander, Major General Oswald Reddy, thanked all role-players for their involvement which led to the safe return of the baby girl.

Investigation continues.
