WESTERN CAPE — The Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit has launched an urgent manhunt following a deadly Steenberg shooting that left five people dead and three others wounded on Saturday evening. A spokesperson for the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit confirmed that detectives are actively investigating five counts of murder and three attempted murders after the violent incident rocked the neighborhood.
According to the police spokesperson, preliminary reports indicate the tragedy unfolded at approximately 20:00 at a residence on Blode Street. The victims were gathered at the home drinking when yet-to-be-identified gunmen entered the premises and fired several shots indiscriminately.
The Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit spokesperson detailed the casualties, noting that four men and one woman, ranging in age from 21 to 33, were killed on the scene. Three additional victims—one man and two women—sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately transported to a medical facility for urgent treatment.
Authorities believe the massacre is directly linked to ongoing gang violence in the region. While no arrests have been made yet, a spokesperson for the Anti-Gang Unit emphasized that detectives are working tirelessly to track down the perpetrators of the act.
Police remain on high alert in the Steenberg area as the investigation continues and the manhunt for the gunmen intensifies.
