Vigilant police members attached to Mitchells Plain and Lentegeur SAPS, who were on patrol, yesterday (2017-04-21) at about 11:35 arrested three males aged between 23 and 34.

Police noticed a suspicious vehicle, a Ford Fiesta and signaled the driver of the vehicle to stop. The driver refused to stop and sped off. A high speed chase through the streets of Mitchell’s Plain ensued. Lentegeur SAPS members noticed the suspicious vehicle at Melkbos street, Lentegeur where the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. The members chased the suspects on foot and all three suspects were apprehended.

The vehicle was tested and found to be hijacked yesterday morning (Friday, 2017-04-21) in Somerset West. The suspects are detained on charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle. The suspects will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 April 2017.

In an unrelated incident, on Friday 2017-04-21 at about 23:00 Mitchell’s Plain police members responded to a complaint of a business robbery at 7th Avenue, Town Centre, Mitchell’s Plain. Two suspects entered the business premises armed with a knife and an iron pipe.

They made off with two laptops, an undisclosed amount of cash, a cellular telephone and a Quantum minibus. Police patrolling in the area spotted the vehicle and arrested the two suspects, aged 24 and 37 years old respectively, on charges of business robbery.

The stolen property and the vehicle were recovered. The two suspects are due to appear in Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 April 2017.
