An efficient response by our members has led to the arrest of a suspect who was found in possession of an illegal firearm. Members were conducting crime prevention duties on Saturday 1 February 2020, at around midnight in Leeu Street, Eastridge, Mitchells Plain when they noticed a suspicious male in the area.

When he saw the members, he took out a firearm from his front waist and threw it onto a yard. Members searched the scene and found a black revolver with several rounds of ammunition. Thereafter, the 41 year old suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in court soon facing a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated matter, members attached to Operation Lockdown acted on information about a house in the area where unlicensed firearms and ammunition were being kept in Samora Machel.

They drove to the mentioned address and entered the premises and upon searching it they seized an unlicensed .38 Special revolver with several rounds of ammunition which were found abandoned inside the premises. An enquiry docket was registered.
