Concerted efforts by our members resulted in multiple arrests during this past weekend for various crimes committed in the Kraaifontein and Nyanga policing precinct.

Police members attached to Kraaifontein SAPS arrested two suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Saturday 29 February 2020, and Sunday 1 March 2020 respectively.

The members were conducting crime prevention operations in Traviata Avenue, Scottsdene, Kraaifontein at around 02:30. They noticed several suspicious looking men standing in the street and approached them. Upon noticing the members approaching, one of the suspects threw an object over a wall they were standing next to, claiming that it was a toy. One of the members jumped over the wall to retrieve the object and discovered that it was in actual fact a .38 Special firearm containing one round of ammunition.

In an unrelated incident, members arrested a 34-year-old male at 01:30 on Sunday 1 March 2020 in Redebe Street, Wallacedene for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The members were busy with routine crime prevention patrols when they noticed a man walking with a firearm in his hand. When the suspect saw the police he dropped the firearm and started running. The police apprehended the suspect and also recovered the firearm, a silver revolver containing six rounds of ammunition, from the street where it was dropped.

Both suspects were arrested and detained on possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition charges at Kraaifontein SAPS. The suspects appeared in the Blue Downs Regional Court on Monday 2 March 2020, on the mentioned charge.
