On Saturday, 4 December 2021 at about 22:30, Operation Lockdown II members were conducting stop and searches at Kuyasa where they spotted three suspicious looking males when they saw the police ran away and entered a yard, upon chasing them one dumped something in the yard at a house in Nxala Street, Kuyasa.

When the officers checked they found a 9mm Luger pistol with ammunition. The firearm was handed in as found abandoned. Further investigation on the serial number (ownership) shown that the owner is deceased and firearm not reported as stolen.

In an unrelated matter Manenberg police arrested a 26-year-old suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition in Tambo Village on 5 December 2021.

The suspect was caught red handed firing shots while the members were busy with crime prevention patrols to combat gang violence in the area. A black 9mm pistol with ammunition was confiscated.

Once charged the suspect will appear in Athlone Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges.
