Members from the Khayelitsha cluster are participating in efforts to ensure the safety of the communities. On 21 October 2020, police from Harare SAPS Crime Prevention Unit conducted a stop and search operation and searched a white Mazda with three occupants. They found two firearms with ammunition in the vehicle and three suspects aged 28, 29 and 42 were arrested and are expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court on 22 October 2020.

In an unrelated incident, police attached to the Khayelitsha Crime Prevention Unit and members from law enforcement conducted a joint operation at Site C where they stopped and searched a taxi. They found cellular phones and arrested a 35-year-old man for possession of presumed stolen property.

Meanwhile, police from Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit arrested two suspects ages 36 and 37 for possession of drugs. The members executed a search warrant at St Montague Village, Lavender Hill on 20 October 2020. Upon searching the house, members found mandrax tablets and an undisclosed amount of cash. They continued searching other rooms and they found 13 packets containing tik, dagga and a undisclosed amount of cash, a 37-year-old man was also arrested. Both suspects appeared in court on 21 October 2020 for possession of drugs.

The provincial SAPS management commended the efforts of the members.
