On 1 August 2018 at about 13:00, members of the National Intervention Unit (NIU) acted swiftly on information and proceeded to a house in Lansport Road, Hanover Park.
The two members of the NIU approached two men, aged 17 and 27, at the house in Hanover Park and upon searching them, members found a 9mm NZ Norinco Pistol loaded with a magazine and live ammunition. The serial number of the pistol has been filed off.
The suspects were arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The police’s investigation continues and the suspects are soon to make their appearance in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Philippi SAPS will continue the fight against crime and bring the perpetrators thereof to book.
