Efforts to fight against the proliferation of illegal firearms in the Mitchell’s Plain area have once again resulted in two more firearms recovered in one day.

On Tuesday 18 July 2017, at about 13:00 the Mitchell’s Plain Police received a tip-off about a house where firearms are kept. Upon arriving at the address in Crag Street, Tafelsig, Mitchell’s plain, members searched the house and when moving a cupboard to remove a plank, a .38 Special firearm with six rounds and eight live 9mm rounds were found.

A 42 year old male was arrested. The suspect faces a charge of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

On the same day at about 20:30 members were conducting stop and search operations at Weltevreden Road in Rocklands, Mitchell’s Plain. While patrolling around Weltevreden Road, they saw two males walking down the road and then asked them to search them.

One silver Arminius .38 special revolver with six live rounds were found on the suspect’s right hand side of his waist. A 21 year old male suspect was arrested.

He faces a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Both suspects will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on Friday 24 July 2017, on the said charges.
