Muizenberg police participated in efforts to ensure safety of the community. While they were patrolling in the Vrygrond area on 4 March 2019, at 23:55, they acted on information they received about a suspect who was in possession of a firearm.

Members proceeded to the address at Pilanesberg Road, Vrygrond. A thorough search was conducted in the premises and they found a Browning 9mm pistol with five rounds of ammunition, in a dustbin. On further investigation it was determined that the serial number of the firearm had been removed. A 35 year old suspect was subsequently arrested and detained on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of ammunition.

In another incident at 00:05, SAPS members observed two suspicious men walking in Gladiola Street, Hillview, one of them was seen discarding what appeared to be a firearm. The suspect was arrested and a CZ 9mm short pistol was recovered with two rounds of ammunition.

The suspect, a 21 year old man was arrested and charged for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Both suspects will appear in the Muizenberg Magistrates Court once they are charged.
