On 28 August 2017 at approximately 16:45 police members from Mitchell’s Plain SAPS received information from a member of the public that a suspect is in possession of illegal ammunition.

Upon their arrival at the address given, Pisa Close, Portlands, Mitchell’s plain, they saw a man running in the yard with a red bag in his hands. The bag was searched and it contained a green box. When the police opened the bag they found 30 hollow point rounds, five 9mm short and five 9mm live rounds of ammunition.

The suspect was arrested for the illegal possession of ammunition and he appeared at the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates Court on 29 August 2017. .

And at approximately 21:40, members of Mitchell’s Plain SAPS were executing vehicle patrols in Lebombo Street, Portlands, Mitchell’s Plain, when they noticed a suspicious person. On seeing the police vehicle the suspect threw something in a yard and ran, with the police members pursuing him. After accosting him, the members investigated and searched him and they went back to where they saw him throwing the item. They found one magazine containing three rounds of ammunition.

The 30 year old suspect, who is allegedly affiliated to the Americans gang, was arrested for the illegal possession of ammunition and he appeared at the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates Court on 29 August 2017.

Ensure that the key is kept in safe storage/the code is kept secret. Keep firearms/ammunition away from children. Report any loss immediately.
