Two Arrested for Firing at Police in Manenberg Raid

Police arrested two suspects for illegal firearm possession and attempted murder after a pursuit and exchange of gunfire early Monday.

At 06:45 on 12 January 2026, Operation Shanela 2 officers on a targeted patrol in Manenberg responded to gunshots. They pursued two fleeing suspects, who fired at the officers during the chase.

The suspects, aged 18 and 39, were apprehended at a premises on Mcosana Street. Police recovered a CZ-P07 9mm pistol with three rounds and a second 9mm pistol with one round. Neither suspect could produce a valid firearm licence.

They face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, attempted murder, attacking police members, and discharging a firearm in a residential area. The suspects are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court once formally charged.
