In a continued crackdown on narcotics, members of Operation Shanela II conducted successful stop-and-search operations across the Cape Flats this weekend, leading to the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of a significant quantity of drugs and cash.

The first incident occurred on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at approximately 15:30 in the Long Kloof Circle area of Heideveld. While conducting vehicle searches, Operation Shanela II members stopped and searched a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old male. The search yielded 121 small sachets of tik and 71 full mandrax tablets. The suspect was subsequently arrested on a charge of possession of drugs.

In a separate but simultaneous operation in Ravensmead, other members of the same unit stopped a 58-year-old male on Robert Sobukwe Road. A search of his motor vehicle uncovered a larger, more varied consignment of narcotics. The seizure included five bags of cocaine, 100 grey XTC tablets, 50 orange XTC tablets, and 40 pink XTC tablets. An amount of R14,880 in cash was also confiscated. Given the quantity and variety of drugs, the 58-year-old suspect was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.

These coordinated operations underscore the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug-related crime in the Western Cape. Both suspects are expected to appear in their respective local magistrates’ courts in the coming days.
