Trio in court for fraudulent roadworthy certificates, Grabouw

The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation unit together with the Western Cape Department of Transport and Public works as well as the Provincial Traffic officials arrested three suspects in connection with fraudulent roadworthy certificates on Wednesday 17 April 2019.

The trio aged between 31 and 41 were arrested after the team descended at a small town of Grabouw clamping down on crime in search of unroadworthy vehicles. During the joint operation three vehicles which previously failed the mandatory roadworthy tests in March by the provincial traffic department were suspended.

The vehicles were deemed not fit to be operated on public roads until all the identified defects were fixed. Despite the prohibition the vehicles were alleged to be fraudulently certified roadworthy at the later stage.

The trio is expected to appear at the Bellville Magistrates court on charges of fraud.

More arrests cannot be ruled out.
