Augustine Mramba (36) was sentenced on Wednesday, 7 April 2021 by the Vredenburg Regional Court for corruption.

The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team arrested Riaan Wiid, a traffic officer from Matzikama Municipality and Mramba who worked as an instructor for Rasta Driving School during an intelligence driven operation on 9 March 2018.

They were arrested following allegations of corrupt activities at a Vredendal vehicle testing station. The investigations revealed that code 10 driver’s licenses were being sold at a minimum of R2000 each.

Mramba who has been in custody since his arrest, was convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment wholly suspended for five years on condition that he is not convicted of fraud during the period of suspension. When handing down the sentence the court also took into account that Mramba entered into a plea bargain with the state in exchange of testifying against the traffic official who is due back in court on 14 April 2021.
