Two suspects aged 24 and 35 are appearing in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday 15 August 2018, on charges of hijacking. The duo was arrested on Monday 13 August 2018 after they had allegedly hijacked a vehicle on Friday 10 August 2018 in Borcherds Quarry.

The two suspects had allegedly driven past the complainant’s vehicle and just stopped in front of the vehicle. One suspect jumped out of the vehicle and pointed a firearm at the complainant, pulled him out of the vehicle and drove away with it.

The suspects were apprehended after an investigation had been conducted.

In a separate incident a 31 year old suspect is expected to appear in court, facing charges of rape and robbery. The complainant alleged that she took an Avanza taxi to visit her boyfriend.

The driver of the Avanza dropped all other passengers and when it was time for her to be taken to her destination, the driver requested to first go to the garage. The complainant agreed, but when they came back from the garage the driver took a different direction. He drove away with the complainant to a dark place where he raped her and robbed her of her belongings.

The suspect was arrested by people who called the police.

The arrested suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s’ Court tomorrow, Thursday 16 August 2018, on rape and robbery charges.
